Who We Are
TheNeighborhoodAdvocate.org is a news and media content provider of stories about youth, families, communities, practitioners and advocates involved in youth and family social justice and systems reform. The site shares stories of individuals and advocates, chronicling a growing movement towards community-based alternatives to youth incarceration and out-of-home placement. The site is a product of Youth Advocate Programs, Inc., a global nonprofit organization exclusively committed to the provision of community-based alternatives to out-of-home care through direct service, advocacy and policy change.
Since YAP’s founding in 1975, YAP has provided safe, cost-effective services to youth and families involved in numerous systems, including the Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice, Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Education and Adult Systems.
YAP serves more than 20,000 families a year in more than 100 programs across 28 states and the District of Columbia in rural, suburban and urban areas, with 100% of programming occurring in the home communities of the people YAP serves.
